The Portsmouth location was formerly Wheeler's Funeral Home, owned by Nancy Thomas Wheeler, the first licensed female embalmer in Virginia and an NAACP leader who helped desegregate lunch counters in Portsmouth. The Roanoke location took over the historic C.C. Williams Funeral Home, established in 1910.
