Mrs. Smith, who passed on June 7, 2014, was born March 7, 1924 to the late Edgar Moore and the late Queen Moore McLendon Snell in Laurens County. Sadie accepted Christ at a very early age. She was a dedicated and faithful member of the Valdosta Baptist Church where she served in numerous capacities: Mother of the Church, Usher, Choir Member and Food Service Ministry. She served as the hostess for many ministers during Revival at Valdosta Baptist Church.

Sadie was a strong and courageous Christian Woman who exemplified the character of Christ at home, in the church, and in the community. Her beautiful smile and hard work was displayed in every job she held: A Lunchroom Cook, a Domestic Worker, Nursing Home Aid, Health Care Companion and as Assistant Chef for the Staff Diner at the Veterans Administration Hospital where she retired.

Mrs. Smith was, affectionately known as “Mama”, “Auntie Sadie”, “Ms. Sadie”, “George Smith’s Wife”, “Mama Sadie”, “Grandma”, and “Grand-Grand” loved people. She enjoyed helping, serving, and encouraging others. She was a model example for her family and wanted the best for everyone. She promoted the value of education, great morals, love for God and His church. Most of all she was a dedicated wife to the love of her life, the late George W. Smith.
Several of her siblings preceded her in death: John Wesley Moore, Beatrice Miller, Minnie Hunter, Samuel Moore, Warren McLendon, Otis McLendon and her twin sister, Madie Albritten.

She is survived by two lovely daughters, Betty (Dr. Winfred) Hope, of Athens and Barbara Smith, “The Boss”, of Dublin; three granddaughters, Helen (Marcus) Kimbrough of Charlotte, North Carolina, Tracey (Ulysses) Haynes of Birmingham, Alamaba and Sabrina Spikes of Dublin; four great grandchildren, Porcha Black of Montgomery, Alabama De’Asia Spikes of Dublin, and Austin and Avery Kimbrough of Charlotte, North Carolina; her dear sister, Lula (Willie) Mack of Dublin, Ethel Terrell of Lithonia; sisters-in-law, Pansy McLendon and Alice Moore of Dublin. She loved Greg Mack, her nephew. We all treasure the care and love given by her beloved niece, Alice Hunter who was her care giver for three years. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Her life and legacy will be treasured forever.

The family will receive friends at 611 Ohio Street in Dublin.
