Gladys Williamson
McConnells – Gladys Elmore Williamson, 100, of Bethesda Community, McConnells, SC, entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 24, 2014. She was the widow of Charles E. Williamson Jr. and J. Darwin Howell of York, SC.

Mrs. Williamson, a daughter of Wade O. Elmore and Pearl Robinson Elmore, was born on August 5, 1914 in Gastonia, NC. The family moved to the Bethesda Community when she was an infant and there she spent her entire life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, six sisters and a step-daughter.

She was an active and life-long member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church where she served for many years as treasurer of the women of the Church. She was honored by the Bethesda Women with an Honorary Life Membership for her devotion and work with that organization. She was also an honoree of the Williamson Endowment for Children’s Ministry, which provides funds for youth participation in camps and conferences as well as mission opportunities. She loved her Lord and was a faithful and devoted servant throughout her life. In 1978, she retired from administrative work with York County after 31 years of service.

After retiring, she enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She had a genuine love for family and friend gatherings.

Mrs. Williamson is survived by three sons: Edward (Dorothy) Williamson, of the Bethesda Community; Bob (Eva) Williamson of Clemson, SC.; and Gene (Claire) Williamson of Rock Hill, SC; one daughter Lucille (Bill) Royall of Charleston, SC and one step-son, Delbert “Chip” (Sissy) Howell of Smyrna, GA. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

The family is so thankful for her special caregivers: Pat Ingram, Barbara Hawkins, and Glenda Fields whose every act showed their love and devotion to her. The family also appreciates Agape Hospice personnel who have provided compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, 4858 McConnells Highway, York, SC 29745, with burial following the service in the Bethesda Cemetery.
