John Jones

Funeral services for Mr. John L. Jones, Sr. of Chester, will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 1 PM at the Laurens Hill Baptist Church, 1404 Laurens Hill Baptist Church, Dudley. Reverend James T. Jackson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Kurtz Cemetery on Payne Cook Road in Montrose.

Mr. Jones, who passed on March 17, was born on April 17, 1926. He was a faithful member of the Laurens Hill Baptist Church for over seventy-five years where he was a member of the choir. He was the eighth of ten children born to the late Plummer Jones, Sr. and the late Geneva Troupe Jones. He was preceded in death by eight siblings.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine years, Elizabeth King Jones; by a son, John L. Jones, Jr. and by a daughter, Barbara Jones Linder.

Mr. Jones leaves to mourn his passing two sons, Willie Morris Jones, and James L. (Shirley) Jones of Chester; one daughter, Rita Jones (Calvin) Thomas of Dublin; one sister, Rosetta J. (Zebedee) Vickers of Miami, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Lemmie Thomas Jones of Chester, and Annie Ruth King of Miami, Florida; brother-in-law, Willie King of Dublin; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Rita (Calvin) Thomas, 363 Sherwood Estates in Dublin, and at the Dudley Funeral home on Friday, March 21, from 6 until 7 PM.
