John Brantley

Funeral services for Mr. John Lewis Brantley, of Dublin, Georgia, will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at 11 AM at the graveside in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery at 600 East Mary Street in Dublin. Reverend Benny Brantley, Sr., will deliver the eulogy.

Mr. Brantley was born on March 10, 1952, in Wrightsville, Georgia, to the parentage of Mrs. Lula B. Hicks Brantley and the late Reverend Lewis A. Brantley. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Brantley Chapel Church of God in Christ. In 1971, he graduated from Johnson County High School and married his devoted friend, Yavonne Martin, in 1973. John was employed by the State of New Jersey Department of Health, where he worked faithfully for more than 40 years until his retirement in April 2010. He also served in the New Jersey National Guard from 1974-1978.

John was an active and loyal member of New Bible Believers Baptist Church and enthusiastically served as an usher. He loved to drive and listen to his music as he traveled extensively along the eastern coast of the United States. As an avid sports enthusiast, John loved basketball and the New York Knicks! John was a peaceful, giving, dedicated, and happy soul whose smile and laughter were contagious. Taking walks along the shore and boardwalk, reading his bible and newspaper, spending time with family and friends at the zoo and carnival, going fishing, taking pictures, and eating out were his favorite pastime activities. He loved his mother’s cooking and was a great cook himself. John was an excellent dad, granddad, son, brother, and friend whose hugs and encouragement will be sorely missed. Impeccably organized and clean, fiscally responsible, God-fearing, and God-loving, John always exemplified a zest for life! He entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 14, 2020. He was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Lewis Brantley, and two brothers, Herbert Brantley and Minister David Brantley.

John leaves to cherish his memory his beloved mother, Mrs. Lula Brantley, four loving children, Shona C. Brantley of Morristown, New Jersey, Demarcus John Brantley of Bud Lake, New Jersey, Tammy Timmons of Duluth, Georgia, and Lakisha Jones (Darnell Rumph) of York, Pennsylvania, six doting grandchildren, Niyani Brantley, Toya Timmons, Tevin (Raven) Timmons , Katatiana Brantley, Nyah Brantley, and Prince Brantley; five great-grandchildren, Aziyah Hall, Za’Cari Hall, Khalil Carter, Symir Timmons, and Khyla Timmons, seven siblings: Ernestine (Clarence) Lilley, Geri (Vincent) Sebastian, Pastor Benny (Marie) Brantley, Sr., Warren (Gwen) Brantley, Anthony (Shirley) Brantley, Wyman (Tricia) Brantley, Carolyn (Keith) Davis, and a loving host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
