Henderson Borders

Henderson Falls Borders passed away on Friday, October 31,2014 at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Borders was born July 30, 1921 to William Herbert and Laura Falls Borders in Shelby, N.C. He moved to York County in1949 and farmed in partnership with his brother, W.H. Borders, Jr. for over 50 years. He farmed beef cattle, poultry, cotton and corn during his farming years.
Mr. Borders was a founding member of Eastview Baptist Church and actively assisted in construction of the church. He served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher and Deacon. He was an active member of his community and served on the Board of Directors of York County Farm Bureau for 42 years, South Carolina Farm Bureau for 10 years, Palmetto Farm Credit, and York Soil and Water Conservation District where he remains Commissioner Emeritus. During his service with the Soil and Water Conservation, Mr. Borders, along with other Directors oversaw the Fishing Creek Watershed Project in York County. Mr. Borders was a WW II veteran. In 2012 he was selected to take the Veterans Honor flight to Washington, DC to tour the WW II veteran monument as well as at other sites around the city. He counted this trip as "one of the highlights of my retired life".
Mr. Borders is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Blanton Borders and 4 children, Kay B. Maynard (Ben), Marsha B. Black (Arthur), Kathryn B. Peterson all of York, and Edwin Borders (Marianne) of Catawba, SC; 11 grandchildren, Charlie Maynard (Stephanie) of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Matt Maynard (Hannah) of Spartanburg, SC, Andy Maynard (Danielle) of Austin,Texas, Blake Maynard and Haley Maynard of Rock Hill, Wendy B. Long (Ben) of Prosperity, SC, Donnie Burgess (Kim) of Smyrna, SC, Ree B. Smith (Ricky) of Batesburg, SC, Ian Peterson (Tabbitha) of Colorado, Emma B Peal (Josh) of Catawba,SC and Shelby Hammond of Perris, California. 9 great-grandchildren, Tabitha and Jerry Burgess, Nick and Camryn Long, Danielle Seals, Damian Maynard, Joseph and Damien Peterson and Thomas Peal. Also surviving are brothers, W.H. Borders of Rock Hill, Elzie Borders of Davidson, NC and sisters, Sara Self of Charlotte, NC, Charlotte Plemmons of Asheville, NC, Ruth Hendrix of Charleston, W.Va. and Jewel Brown of Gastonia, NC. Mr. Borders was predeceased by a brother Robert Borders of Shelby, NC, a sister, Eunice Rhyne of Sanford, NC and great grandson Alexander Long of Prosperity, SC.
A memorial service will be held at Eastview Baptist Church on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 2:00 PM conducted by Rev. Larry Nunn. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and will be at the residence at other times.
The family wishes to express thanks to his caregivers, Renee, Novis, Paige, Priscilla, Rachel, Lisa, Candice, Lorna and Stacy who took such special care of our Father.
