Funeral services for Mrs.Cecil Eloise Pearson Hill, of Macon, will be on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 2:30 PM at the Steward Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church at 887 Forsyth Street in Macon.. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Macon.

Mrs. Hill was born on June 13, 1915, in Wheeler County, Georgia. She was the oldest surviving child born to Nathan and Bessie McClendon Pearson and received her early education in the public schools of Wheeler and Laurens Counties. She graduated from the Ballard Normal High School in Macon. Mrs. Hill enrolled at Georgia State College (now Savannah State University); and after obtaining her teaching certificate, she began her career education as a teacher in Wheeler County. Mrs. Hill completed her undergraduate studies at Fort Valley State College and enrolled in graduate studies at Atlanta University, Tuskegee University, and Mercer University.

Mrs. Hill’s career in elementary education spanned 39 years. She taught in several counties of South Georgia, however, the last 23 years of her teaching career were in Macon, Georgia, where she retired from the Maude C. Pye Elementary School as a 3rd grade teacher in 1973.

Mrs. Hill was united in matrimony to Mr. John Mack Hill on December 20, 1942. They were noted for the devotion to each other, to family , to church, to education, and to community until his death in December of 1986.

Mrs. Hill was a loyal and devoted member of Steward Chapel A.M.E. Church for over 60 years. She served faithfully in many capacities including teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, serving as a part of the Women’s Missionary Society, and serving as a member of the Board of Trustees.

Mrs. Hill, along with her husband, was an avid gardener. She was well known in her community for her love and knowledge of plants. She was an enthusiastic member of her community garden club.

“Aunt Ce”, as she was affectionately known by her family, was a revered matriarch. Her love of family was without bounds. She was a source of nurturing, compassion, and wisdom for all who knew her.

Mrs. Hill was predeceased by her parents Nathan and Bessie Pearson; two sisters, Mildred P. Cummings and Eleanor P. Spearman; three brothers, Nathan E. Pearson, Sr., Virgil L Pearson, Sr., and Dr. Huey L. Pearson. She is survived by nephew, Dr. Ronald (Dr. Barbara) Spearman of Augusta, whom she raised as a son; great-niece, Dr. Vanessa Spearman of Augusta, great-nephew, Mr. David R. Spearman, II and great-great nephew, David R. Spearman, III, both of Atlanta. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lavesta P. Rutland of Atlanta, and Mrs. Mamie P. (Lewis) Jordan of Kansas City, MO, as well as two sisters-in-law, Mrs Dorothy Pearson of Dublin, and Mrs. Joyce Pearson of Fort Wayne, IN.. She is survived by one brother, Mr. Alfred (Thomasenor) Pearson, Sr., of Dublin. She is additionally survived y a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, god children, and friends.

Viewing will be at Hutchings Funeral Home, 536 New Street in Macon, on Friday, April 12, from 12-8 PM; and at Dudley Funeral Home in Dublin, on Saturday, April 13, from 9-11 AM. The body will lie in state at Steward Chapel A.M.E. Church from 1:30-2:30 PM on Saturday, April 13.
