Bonnie Sanford

Bonnie Rhyne Sanford, age 73, died in Clover, SC on August 21, 2014, in a car accident.
Born June 5, 1941, in Gaston County to Leonard O. Rhyne and Alice Beatty Rhyne, she graduated from Clover High School in 1959, Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1963, and The Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina.
During her extensive career as a Christian Educator and Associate in Ministry, Bonnie served at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Charleston, SC; Reformation Lutheran Church, Philadelphia, PA; Christ Lutheran Church, Oreland, PA; Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Charlotte; St. John’s Lutheran Church, Cherryville; St. John’s Lutheran Church, Statesville; St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Hickory; and several others. She had recently retired from Shelby Presbyterian Church in Shelby, after which she moved to Winston-Salem in late June to be close to her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.
Bonnie will be especially remembered for her selflessness, spirituality, open-mindedness, and zest for life. She enjoyed classical music, sewing, reading, HGTV and --most of all-- spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. An avid gardener, “Grammee” planned to have her grandchildren join her in planting flowers at her new home in Winston-Salem.
Survivors include her daughter Amy, son-in-law Jake, grandchildren Stan and Laurel, all of Winston-Salem; sister Mary Jane and her husband Andy of Clover; and sister Lib of Gastonia, currently residing in Stanley; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her brothers John, Lawrence, Sam and Luther and by Amy’s father, David.
Memorial services will be held at The Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd in Mt. Holly on Saturday, August 30, at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. in the Parish Hall.
